Identities, Meanings, and Geographies of Homelessness

Meaning: A person who is without a permanent or nighttime residence.
Identities: Lack of control, a sense of shame, seen as litter by those in the mainstream, often times there are issues of mental health and substance abuse.
-Disassociation from family and society, resulting in a feeling of alienation
Geographies: Typically in central areas of larger cities, away from public eye such as under bridges or in alleyways or secluded areas of public parks. In rural and suburban areas the homeless are more hidden both literally and in the minds of the community.
